The first Limited Edition: collaboration with a luxury department store chain
The very first Limited Edition Audi TT found its way to the general public not through the dealer, but through the window of a... fashion shop. In 1999, Audi and luxury department store chain Neiman Marcus joined forces for an exclusive campaign in the United States. The result: 100 numbered examples of the TT Coupé Neiman Marcus, produced especially for North America based on the 180 hp version (2000 model year).
This TT was not only a driving style icon, but also a reference to Audi's design roots. The colour scheme - an elegant Nimbus grey paint with a luxurious Mokassin leather interior - was immediately reminiscent of the iconic Audi TTS Roadster concept, which stole the show at the 1995 Tokyo Motor Show. But unlike the prototype, this limited edition appeared exclusively as a Coupé.
The price of this special TT? $ 34,950*, excluding taxes (which can vary considerably from one US state to another). A striking offering, both in terms of style and sales channel - and a bold start to what would later become a rich tradition of TT specials.
