The exterior lighting of the Audi TT 8N is more than just “a few lights”. It is precisely the combination of headlights, rear lights and the different versions that can sometimes be confusing. That is why we have provided a handy overview here, so that you can see at a glance where the lights are located and which versions are available.

The exact types and positions of the lights are clearly shown in three easy-to-understand visuals. You can also find these in the TT instruction manual, but we have collected them here in one place for extra convenience.

Do you want or need to replace a bulb? Always consult:

  • The instruction manual for your Audi TT 8N
  • The explanatory video, if available

This will ensure that you install the correct bulb and do not damage anything.

Rear light details

The rear lights of the Audi TT 8N have a small detail that many owners encounter. The inner of the two rear lights (the second rear light) is a combination lamp with two light intensities:

  • Rear light
  • Brake light
  • Fitting type: BAY15d

In the US version of the rear lights, both inner lights function as brake lights. This results in a different light signature than the European version. Would you like to convert your TT to US-style rear lights? TT-Eifel has a clear explanation of how you can do this yourself.

Headlights: the different versions
The Audi TT 8N comes with three main versions of headlights. These differ mainly in technology (halogen or xenon) and the colour of the insert (black or titanium grey).

Overview of Audi TT 8N headlight versions:

  • Halogen with black insert
    Version: G or BE version
  • Xenon with black insert
    Version: BH version
  • Xenon with titanium grey insert
Version: BM version (from model year 2003 onwards)

Original xenon headlights can be recognised by the headlight washers in the front bumper. Please note: due to previous replacement of the bumper or headlights, this is no longer a 100% guarantee. The combination may differ on imported or converted vehicles.

For the American market, the headlights also have an additional orange reflector in the housing to comply with local regulations. This is an easy visual clue to recognise US headlights.
