There is a lot to do about the convertible top cover (in good German, the Persenning). Over the years, 3 versions of the convertible top cover have been marketed by Audi. The debate is whether there is a different version for the shallow quattro boot (capacity 180 litres) than for the front-wheel-drive (220 litres).
The parts catalogue shows 3 variants with different delivery dates. The pictures below show that both the A and B versions are wider than the C version. As a result, the C-version fits just a little easily through the limited opening of the Roadster boot. An advantage in insertion and removal, especially with the shallow quattro boot. But as can already be seen from the delivery dates, the narrow C version was delivered only from the last quarter of 2002. This while the quattro was in production from day 1.
Field examination of the different versions in the back of the TT 8N Roadsters shows that, in a quattro, the wide B-version sits neatly in the back. Also well shown in the photos is that the C-version is a lot narrower (83 cm) at the folding seams than covering the spare wheel and therefore certainly fits more easily through the narrow opening of the boot (only 84 cm wide). With an A- or B-version, which are at least 90 cm wide at the folding seams, this is certainly a challenge. Especially with the shallow quattro boot. Most likely, this is Audi's reason for making this modification. Below are the pictures of all 3 in the boot of the Audi TT 8N.
Conclusion is that the C version is definitely not quattro-specific. More convenient due to the reduced boot height, the C version is, for sure.

Cover (Persenning) not only in black
Besides the colour black (code 24A), from 06-2000 the cover was also available in Indigo blue (code 6H7). Good to look out for if you still want to buy one.
Not useful as an everyday accessory
The convertible top cover (Persenning) is not really useful as an everyday accessory. Assembly takes a while. In case of spontaneous rain, you have to remove it again. And of course it takes up quite a bit of space in the boot. The reason it is often left in the garage or attic. With the result that when changing TT owners, the cover (Persenning) and the TT 8N Roadster are separated. Which in turn makes for lively trading by people where it is in the way and new owners who still want to complete their TT.
