Looking for the exact track width and wheelbase measurements of the Audi TT 8N? Below, we explain what track width and wheelbase mean and where the subtle difference lies between the dimensions of the FWD (front-wheel drive) and the quattro.
Track width
The track width is the distance between the centres of the wheels on the same axle, measured on the ground (centre of tyre to centre of tyre). For the Audi TT 8N, the front axle is the same for both FWD and quattro: 1,528 mm. The difference is at the rear: FWD measures 1,513 mm, quattro 1,505 mm. That is 8 mm narrower in total; each quattro rear wheel is 4 mm further inwards. With the same rims and tyres, the FWD rear axle therefore looks slightly “fuller” in the wheel arches.

Wheelbase
The wheelbase is the distance between the centre of the front axle and the centre of the rear axle. FWD has 2,422 mm, quattro 2,429 mm — 7 mm longer. This is because the rear wheels on the quattro are positioned 7 mm further back. The bodywork is identical; it is purely the wheel position in the rear wheel arch that shifts minimally. In practice, a slightly longer wheelbase often provides just a little more straight-line stability, while the TT retains its agility.
