The introduction of the TT did not go smoothly. Even before the already omnipresent stability problems in late 1999, there were delays for the 225 hp version in the first few days. Heat problems with the strongest version forced Audi to delay delivery to customers. According to sources, there were a few dealers with this version in stock for the showroom, but were not allowed to deliver it until further notice. In those days, customers had to wait an extra 4 to 6 months for their 225 hp. Something that can still be seen in the 2024 Dutch registration:

  • 1st 180hp TT Coupé in the NL dates from 17-08-1998 with, of course, real numbers in January 1999 (new year)
  • 1st 225hp TT Coupé in NL dates from 07-01-1999 but until June 1999 only 2 can be found and only then the numbers go up

Only a 180 hp version was also available for the December 1998 Autovisie supertest.
This despite the fact that the 180 and 225 hp were both introduced at the same time.
