As you may know, the official production location of the TT 8N is the factory in Györ Hungary. Only this is only half the story. Actually, only assembly took place in Györ and by then the TT had already had quite a journey behind it.
Namely in Ingolstadt 600 km from Györ, the bodywork (pressing, welding and spraying) was made. In the first years, ~200 TTs a day left Ingolstadt by train to make the journey to Györ in about 12 hours. There, the TTs were finished in 65 steps. Arriving in Györ, the first to be removed were then the doors to be assembled separately and later reunited with the body.
The reason for the construction at 2 location was to use the knowledge and quality present in Ingolstadt of the then A3. To set up the bodywork production line, knowledge was shared with:
