Want to know more about your Audi TT 8N (or other Audis)? Then the option code sticker (also known as the “PR sticker”) is a gold mine. On a single label, you'll find information such as the chassis number, engine code, gearbox code, paint and interior code, and a whole row of PR codes that indicate exactly which options the TT left the factory with.

Where can you find the option code sticker?

You will find the sticker in two places:

  • In the boot (spare wheel compartment)
The sticker is affixed to the right-hand side of your spare wheel well. This is often the “original” sticker, but it may be weathered or partially illegible due to moisture and age.

  • In the service booklet
The service booklet usually contains a duplicate: right on the first page when you open it.

Is this sticker missing? Then it is a good time to take a critical look at whether the service booklet really belongs to your car.

What does the sticker say?

If you look closely at the option code sticker, you will see several blocks of information. These are the most important ones:

  1. Chassis number (VIN)
Unique number of your car. Structure: see the visual in the call-out box on this page below.
  2. Vehicle code (platform/variant)
In the example: 8N = Audi TT (type 8N).
The number after that indicates the body type:
    9 = Roadster
    3 = Coupé
  3. Vehicle type
    Internal designation of the model.
  4. Engine power & gearbox details
Useful if you want to check what was delivered from the factory.
  5. Production date
The production date (month/year) of the TT 8N in question.
  6. Engine code
For example, BHE for the 3.2 V6.
An overview of known engine codes can be found on the engines page.
  7. Gearbox code
The code of your transmission (manual/automatic and type).
  8. Paint code (exterior colour code)
Refers to the factory colour. An overview can be found on the paint colours page.
  9. Interior code (upholstery/colour)
Refers to the material and colour code of the upholstery. An overview can be found on the upholstery page.

Decoding PR codes equipment and options

The most enjoyable (and sometimes frustrating) part: the PR codes (10). These are Audi/VAG production codes that describe exactly which equipment and options your car has. Examples (as shown on the sticker in the image above):

  • X4B = National sales program Switzerland
  • H6G = H6G
  • T33 = 6-cylinder gasoline engine 3.2 L unit 022.C
  • 8UD = Radio "concert"

Where can you look up PR codes?
You can decode PR codes online using various PR code databases. A well-known one is igorweb Equidec (search for ‘igorweb equidec PR codes’ if you cannot find it straight away).

Weight, consumption and emission data

At the bottom of a separate block (11) is information that is relevant for registration/paperwork and historical specifications. (see image above):

  • Roadworthy weight (kg)
This weight is usually corrected with the factory options.
  • Fuel consumption (l/100 km)
    Broken down into:
    - city
    - highway
    - combined
  • CO₂ emissions (g/km)
